Twenty Third Annual Convention
Vacation Ownership, Paradigms and Opportunities
The Mexican Resort Development Association (AMDETUR) will be holding its Twenty-Third Convention with the topic “Vacation Ownership, Paradigms and Opportunities”.
Even though the international economic scenario looks very difficult in the future, Mexico still stands out as one of the main tourism destinations, thanks to its attractions, excellent quality and service, as well as the development of its touristic infrastructure.
To this aspect, the vacation ownership industry remains as one of the most important cornerstones of the tourism activity in Mexico, contributing in a very significant way to the creation of employment, as well as to the regional and economic growth of our country. In fact, it has become one of the main alternatives capable of diminishing the pitfalls taking place not only in the financial sector but also in the different areas of our economy.
Clearly, we are living uncertain economic times, so that's why we have to be aware more than ever of working out, redefining strategies and seizing the initiative in our industry to boost investment and tourism flow.
Amongst these activities, promotion is one of the most important ones. Therefore, a very successful campaign, “Vive México,” was launched to promote our tourism destinations. Its priority was to focus on the national market in a first stage, and then direct efforts towards the international tourism.
Under such circumstances our products and services should become more competitive and innovative and thus, we should reduce costs to make our companies more profitable.
Likewise, we should promote and ensure that our consumers have confidence in us, far beyond their own vacation expectations. Undoubtedly, a satisfied customer will come back to our country since we are making true his vacation dreams as well as making him enjoy new and fulfilling experiences.
We are certain that AMDETUR's Annual Convention will not only give you a clear outlook of what is taking place in Mexico, but also around the world, and how you should face and take advantage of these new growth opportunities.
Attend this great tourism event and listen to experts who will talk about topics of interest like:
- Which are the tourism trends for 2010?
- What is taking place in the vacation ownership industry in Mexico vs The United States and Canada?
- Which are the actions the Mexican Federal Government is taking to support the tourism activity in our country?
- How to face the new market conditions?
- Is it possible to grow in austerity times?
- How to be more creative in order to increase sales?
We strongly invite you to participate actively in the actions which will define the future of our industry. Sign in and take advantage of the attractive discounts offered by AMDETUR.

As Orange Lake’s Chairman of the Board, Spence Wilson continues to carry out the vision of his father, Kemmons: to forever change the way that families vacation together. Under his leadership, Orange Lake Resorts has grown from the largest single-site timeshare resort in the world—on over 1,450 acres next to Walt Disney World®— to resort locations in Lake Geneva, WI, Panama City, FL, Brownsville, VT, Myrtle Beach, SC, and Gatlinburg, TN. In 2008, Spence helped forge the way for the development of a strategic alliance between Orange Lake and Holiday Inn’s parent company, IHG (InterContinental Hotels Group). It was a natural fit for the two companies, with the shared history of Kemmons Wilson having founded Holiday Inns in 1952 and Orange Lake in 1982—and who, today, also share a similar customer profile and growth strategy. The result was the creation of a new timeshare brand, Holiday Inn Club Vacations™, offering more vacation flexibility and choices for club members. Spence’s lifework spans more than 40 years in industries from construction to real estate. After spending his earlier years as a construction superintendant to his father, who was then Chairman of the Board for Holiday Inns, he joined the staff of Kemmons Wilson, Inc., a real estate and investment firm, and was named President in 1973. Today, Spence is an active owner in Hampton and Holiday Inns in the Southeast and is a partner in Wilson Hotel Management. In 1995, Spence was named to the Society of Entrepreneurs. He is active in Bridges Inc., and he serves on the board of directors of The Wilson Foundation, a family philanthropic organization that provides funding to education, arts, religion, youth service and community development. Spence also serves as trustee and finance committee chairman at Rhodes College. On countless occasions, Spence provides both financial and practical support to lobbying and political efforts of the American Resort Development Association’s Resort Owners’ Coalition (ARDA-ROC) at the national and state levels. In 2007, Spence received the highest honor given by this organization, the ARDA Circle of Excellence (ACE) Lifetime Achievement Award. |
